Anomalous. Salient. Preternatural. I mean, there's an endless scroll of words that describe the special nature and ability of BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa but nothing still seems justifiable. A Velociraptor in the frame of a Black Jaguar, Dybantsa possesses a rare blend of Guard/Forward oscillation that we haven't seen in quite some time. Though an explosive vertical athlete, he still features a jarring horizontal malleability play after play, shining light on his elite body control. Rim pressure savant. High motor paint toucher. Transition apex predator. There's so much to gaze over the 6'9 wing who may have left a bit of meat on the bone at BYU that keeps him just outside my "Generational" grade.

  • Prototypical 4-level scoring prowess
  • Advanced tempo recognition
  • Offensive/Defensive versatility
  • Improved half-court processing as the season went along
  • Exceptional rim and paint touch from double jabs, spins and side steps.

CONS

  • Has many defensive lapses due to ball watching
  • Can settle for tough long 2s instead of attacking the rim
  • Can overdose athletically versus skillful leverage
  • 3 point consistency is still in question
