Darius Acuff has been a tough evaluation for me to wrap my head around. On one hand ( and remember this one hand ) he possesses this nostalgic 90s streetball cadence mixed with the discipline of a high-level maestro. Every possession feels open to him, if that makes sense. Every shot feels open. Every cutter feels open. Every lane on the court feels like the tollway at 2 AM on a tuesday morning. There's an effortless nature to his game that makes Acuff thrive in the gray area between structure and improvisation. He truly has exceeded the elite shotmaking and playmaking headline, instead existing above that with his rhythm being his weapon of choice coupled with his hesitation being his unlimited ammunition. Few guards {in my opinion} have possessed the manufacturing ability and confidence that Acuff enters the league with...on offense...*switches to the other hand*...but I must say...he's probably walking into the league as the worst defender on day 1. While his size isn't overwhelming, much of the issue seems to be mentally instead of physically. There's a psychology I think that exists to those who bear such a massive offensive burden where maybe at the next level it can be conditioned differently. As bad as his defense is, Acuff's projection will always rest on how much offensive pressure he can apply with his skillset to suppress any disadvantages he may have.
