Hannes Steinbach plays with an old-world disposition that feels pretty uncommon in today's game. While many modern bigs chase the perimeter meta , Steinbach embraces the somewhat 'counterculture' of the interior big man, carving out space with disciplined footwork, broad shoulders, and an unwavering understanding of leverage. His game isn't designed to overwhelm with spectacle but instead to wear opponents down through repetition, patience, and physical certainty. The touch around the rim is just so advanced and he gets my personal vote for best rebounder in the class. While not an explosive horizontal athlete, there is a bendy-ness to his routes on fast breaks almost like a Tight End predetermining the open space unfolding for a touchdown. His level of processing quietly elevates everything around him and he understands how to remain connected to the electricity of an offense without demanding it revolve around him. The ceiling questions will naturally emerge from the modern NBA lens but basketball has always found room for intelligent players who consistently reload and solve possessions before athleticism is required. Steinbach feels less like a relic of a previous era and more like a reminder that fundamentals never become obsolete.
