Joshua Jefferson is definitely one of my "My Guys" this draft cycle. While the odds of him becoming a star are slim, he still has a knack for finding himself in the middle of winning possessions just based on the toolkit he possesses. He plays with a controlled physicality that allows him to absorb contact, finish through traffic, and comfortably defend multiple frontcourt assignments. And then when he gets in the post, he has almost every move as a scorer and playmaker that gives defenders fits every second he has the ball. He has an impressive feel not only for his position but just as an overall court mapper that goes beyond a "connector". Jefferson isn't the type of forward who naturally bends defenses with elite shot creation or consistent perimeter shooting gravity, which is where the questions about "self-generated offense" stem from. Much of his scoring comes from intelligent cuts, transition opportunities, second-chance points, and capitalizing on defensive mistakes rather than manufacturing difficult baskets. Still, his versatility gives him a strong foundation that amplifies as he couples it with his high basketball IQ.

  • Does not consistently create separation against elite perimeter defenders
